Bicycle Accidents
If you or a loved one is injured while riding a bicycle by another driver, you or that loved one might very well be entitled to damages. In 2011 677 people in the United States lost their lives in bicycle/ motor vehicle accidents. That is just less than 2 people each day of the year! These people represent two percent of the total number killed and injured in traffic crashes in 2011. There were 48,000 people injured in 2011 on bicycles.
A bicyclist is entitled to the same protections under Ohio’s motor vehicle laws as a driver and a driver simply saying that he never saw the bicyclist is not a legal excuse for the accident. When a bicyclist is involved in an accident with a motorist the injuries can be catastrophic. It is vital to have David Michel investigate the accident immediately afterwards so witness statements can be obtained and perhaps video can be retrieved from traffic cameras in the city where the accident occurred or from neighboring stores which might have video surveillance of their premises and the roadway near their premises. However, often these tapes are maintained for only a short period of time before they are taped over and become rendered useless in the accident investigation. So if you were in a bicycle accident or know someone who was, make sure David Michel is contacted as soon as possible after the accident.
